Marios Argiros

Marios Argiros

Marios is an Iyengar teacher who combines teaching yoga with his work as a classical musician. He came to yoga originally through neck and back problems he had been unable to solve with other therapies and found that Iyengar yoga had a transforming effect on his life and his work as a musician. Marios has studied and practised yoga for many years and completed his teacher training at the Manchester and District Iyengar Yoga Institute. He has studied with many eminent teachers, including the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Memorial Institute in Pune, India.

Dominic Batten

Dominic Batten

Dominic started yoga on the advice of an osteopath some fifteen years ago. He no longer needs osteopathy. He qualified as an Introductory level teacher at Manchester in 2001 and is currently qualified at Intermediate Junior level 2. As well as attending classes with Frances Homewood and Marios Argiros, Dominic has gained from practising with a range of teachers at Yoga conventions in the UK, and at other events in Greece, Portugal and India. He has attended sessions with both Geeta Iyengar and BKS Iyengar. Because of working full-time with the Safeguarding Children Team, Dominic is only able to teach one evening a week.

Helen Clay

Helen Clay

Helen has been teaching yoga in Sheffield since 1991 and has developed a particular interest in the use of yoga for therapeutic purposes. Commissioned by the GP practice at Foxhill to work with small groups of patients with chronic health problems, Helen has found that the yoga has brought them relief from pain and taught them degrees of relaxation that have improved their condition. Helen also works for OFSTED.

Frances Homewood

Frances has been teaching Iyengar yoga in Sheffield since 1983. Her classes are enjoyed by beginners to intermediate level students and she is known for warmth and humour in her teaching. In 2005 she realised a lifelong dream of opening a dedicated Sheffield Yoga Centre so that people can practice in a calm and fully equipped environment.
She has studied in Pune, India with the Iyengar family on many occasions and feels very blessed to have had these opportunites.
She is a qualified Assessor and Teacher Trainer for the Iyengar Yoga Associaton (UK).

Joan Abrams

Joan lives near Glossop in Derbyshire, and has been part of the Manchester 'yoga scene' for countless years, practising with Jeanne Maslen, a senior teacher there. She holds the Intermediate Junior Level 3 Certificate and has a ‘Yoga Room’ in her home where she teaches individuals or small classes.
However, she is now a 'Sheffielder' - on Tuesdays. Her daughter lives here, her partner teaches here, and she now feels a very welcome part of the Sheffield Yoga Centre. She teaches the 'Older and Stiffer' Tuesday lunchtime class and helps with the Therapeutic class later in the day.

Mandy has been practising yoga for over 15 years and has completed her teacher training in 2007. She now teaches one evening a week at the Sheffield Yoga Centre. She works full time as an organisational consultant and coach.

Emma Rattenbury

Emma has been practicing Iyengar yoga in Sheffield for nearly 20 years. She recently realised a dream by qualifying to teach at Introductory level. She has attended workshops and UK conventions with a range of senior teachers, including Geeta Iyengar, Jawahar, Rajvi Mehta, Margaret Rawlinson and many others. Over the last two years she has assisted her regular teacher, Frances Homewood, in her therapeutic class. She currently teaches one evening class a week at the Sheffield Yoga Centre, and is keen to start a day time one if there is sufficient interest. Emma combines her yoga teaching with working part time as a freelance consultant in partnership and organisational development.

Helen Scarlett

Helen has been practicing Iyengar Yoga for 10 years and qualified Introductory Teacher in 2007. She has trained with many senior yoga teachers including BKS Iyengar and his family in India. Due to other commitments, Helen does not currently teach a regular class at the centre.

Bridget Strong

Bridget Strong

Bridget started yoga as a way of coping with the pressures and demands of a young family and quickly became a convert of Iyengar Yoga. She works in mental health and can see how beneficial yoga can be to our whole wellbeing - both physical and emotional. She also plays the violin and has found that yoga has also helped with posture and avoiding the aches and pains that musicians often suffer from. Yoga has also helped manage and overcome chronic backpain.
Bridget qualified as an introductory teacher in 2007 and now teaches at the Sheffield Yoga Centre.

Pascale Vacher

Pascale Vacher

Pascale started Iyengar yoga in 1994 with Frances Homewood and has qualified as an Introductory level Iyengar yoga teacher in November 2007. She regularly attendclasses at the centre with Frances Homewood and Marios Argiros and workshops with senior teachers. Pascale now also teaches at the Sheffield Yoga Centre.
She is a member of the SADIYA commitee, deals with membership issues and maintains this web site the best she can (;-).
Her yoga practice has greatly reduced her back problems and now also allows her to escape from a full on family life and to forget about any unfinished work!

Wendy Weller-Davies

Wendy Weller-Davies

Wendy has been practising Iyengar yoga since 1992 and qualified to teach in November 2007. She has studied with many eminent Iyengar yoga teachers including Geetha and BKS Iyengar in Pune in 2004 (Geetha's 60th birthday celebrations), Rajvi Metha, Jawahar, Faek Biria, Marion Kilburn and many others.
Wendy began teaching at the Sheffield Yoga Centre in January 2008. She is also currently Chair of SADIYA, edits the SADIYA newsletter and is our representative on the IYA(UK) committee.
As a member of the full-time workers' "rat race", Wendy is particularly keen on the aspects of yoga that help us to achieve a balance in our busy working and personal lives.
