Welcome to the Sheffield and District Iyengar Yoga Association (SADIYA)
You may be looking at this page if you have an interest in trying yoga in Sheffield. Our organisation co-ordinates a range of classes, including many at Sheffield Yoga Centre in Walkley - opened in September 2005. We also provide classes at several locations around Sheffield, and run weekend events.
You might also wish to join our organisation - this helps us to co-ordinate Sheffield yoga facilities, and provides you with a magazine and discounts to some of the yoga events organised at the Sheffield Yoga Centre.
The Iyengar style of yoga has a particular emphasis on body alignment and is characterized by its precision and attention to detail in the practice of each posture. Awareness of this and the benefits of careful extension are taught in the form of asanas, or poses. Whilst the asanas are an ancient Indian system of movement, they have been developed in a particular way by BKS Iyengar from Pune, India, whose method has become one of the most respected worldwide. BKS Iyengar has studied the yoga postures in depth and developed a system that makes yoga very accessible to everyone.
Iyengar teachers are extensively trained and must continue their training to remain qualified. The Iyengar teaching programme is very carefully designed so that students can progress from beginner to intermediate and beyond and practice safely, even those with injuries or illnesses.
If you live around Sheffield, why not try one of our classes? |
